The Restoration Concert on Sunday, January 28, 2024 will feature a trio: flutist Susan Greenberg, clarinetist Michele Zukovsky, and pianist Pierre Tang.

The program will feature music by Bizet, Shostakovich, Ginastera, Debussy, Albert, Chihara, Brahms, and Joplin. The concert is presented by the Restoration Concerts Committee of the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library and will be held in the beautiful historic Library Community Room in South Pasadena. Tickets will be available at the door for $25.

Flutist Susan Greenberg enjoys a versatile career as soloist, chamber musician, symphony player, and recording artist. The Los Angeles Times has described her playing as “brilliant,” “elegant,” and “supple,” and has lauded her “panache” and “musical projection.” During her 36 years with the LA Chamber Orchestra, Greenberg was a frequent soloist on both flute and piccolo.

“Michele Zukovsky is the standard for which I judge every other clarinetist.” – Zubin Mehta. At a mere 18 years old, Michele Zukovsky became the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s principal clarinetist. She went on to become the orchestra’s longest-serving female woodwind player and by the time she retired in December 2015, she had played under five of the orchestra’s major directors. Since that time, she’s invested her energy in teaching both privately and at institutions, all the while maintaining a busy schedule with guest masterclasses.

As a vocal coach, collaborative pianist, and period keyboardist, Pierre Long-Tao Tang completed a doctoral degree in collaborative piano. Tang oversees the instrumental ensemble program, directs the orchestra and wind ensemble, and serves as the conductor for the annual musical theatre and opera productions at Pepperdine University. Recently, Tang joined the roster of staff pianists at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

The Restoration Concerts Committee, a committee of the non-profit organization, The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, has a goal to bring world-class music at an affordable price to the concertgoers in South Pasadena and surrounding communities. As the name suggests, net proceeds from the concerts provide for restorations, enhancements, and other benefits to the South Pasadena Library and Community Room.
