Scores of adoptable pets will be seeking loving homes as Pasadena Humane partners with PetSmart Charities to host in-store adoption events during National Adoption Week.

The initiative will bring shelter animals directly into PetSmart locations, giving potential adopters the opportunity to meet and spend time with pets in a more accessible setting. Staff and volunteers will be on hand throughout the events to assist visitors and help match them with suitable companions.

Pasadena Humane will participate at three local stores this week, offering a variety of animals for adoption. A highlight of the week is the “Hidden Gems” event scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, March 25, at the PetSmart Hastings Ranch location. This weekly program focuses on dogs who have been overlooked at the shelter, giving them increased visibility and time outside the shelter environment.

“We’re incredibly grateful for our partnership with PetSmart and PetSmart Charities,” said Kevin McManus, PR & Communications Director at Pasadena Humane. “Showcasing our adoptable pets in their stores has expanded our reach and led to countless meaningful connections—especially for our ‘Hidden Gems’ who might otherwise be overlooked.”

Among the dogs expected at Wednesday’s event is Blake, an 8-year-old black lab and pit bull mix. Blake has been in Pasadena Humane’s care since his family lost their home in the Eaton Fire last January and could not secure pet-friendly housing. Known for his affectionate and mellow personality, Blake has become a favorite among staff and volunteers, who frequently welcome him into their offices. While he will be missed, the team hopes he finds a permanent, loving home.

Organizers say pet adoption not only benefits animals but also improves human well-being. Studies indicate that caring for pets can enhance cognitive, physical, and emotional health, while also teaching children values such as patience, compassion, and responsibility.

“Making room in your heart and home for a pet opens the door for another pet to enter Pasadena Humane, so you’re really saving two lives,” said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities. “If you’re looking for a positive way to contribute to your local community and bring new joy to your household, what better time than during National Adoption Week.”

      Event Schedule:
      Wednesday, March 25, 5:00 pm – 7:00 p.m. (Dogs) — PetSmart Hastings Ranch
      Saturday, March 28, 11:00 am – 2:00 p.m. (Cats) — PetSmart Tujunga
      Sunday, March 29, 11:00 am – 2:00 p.m. (Dogs) — PetSmart Tujunga

All adoptable pets can also be viewed online through Pasadena Humane.
