Gather your blankets and lawn chairs, pack your picnic, and come experience the music and drama of West Side Story under the stars.

Countless fans know and love Leonard Bernstein’s landmark work with songs like “America,” “Somewhere,” and “I Feel Pretty”, but few have seen it like this. Originally conceived as an opera, we’re paying tribute to Bernstein’s impact with the grand operatic treatment. New York City’s West Side is split between the Jets and the Sharks, but these warring gangs never imagined that two of their own could fall in love.

Arrive early to enjoy fun pre-show activities including live performances by African Soul International (ASI), Darlene Green, Melodia Mariposa, and the Thurgood Marshall Secondary School Chamber Choir. Explore the history of jet propulsion and discover a fun new way to learn about science with Caltech’s public presentations and lecture series.

      Parking

Skip the search for parking, we’ll have two complimentary shuttles providing speedy service from John Muir High School (located right off the 210 freeway) directly to Loma Alta Park. Look for the LA Opera flag and hop on for an afternoon of opera fun. Shuttle will run between 4:00pm-11:00pm.
