Explore the spiritual and historical legacies of yokai with experts in Japanese folklore, art history, and pop culture on Saturday, January 17, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and catch an exclusive early look at USC Pacific Asia Museum (PAM)’s upcoming exhibition, Mythical Creatures: The Stories We Carry.
Join Michael Dylan Foster, Professor of Japanese Folklore at the University of California, Davis, and Virginia Kuhn, Ph.D, Professor of the Practice of Cinematic Arts, Media Arts + Practice Division, and Associate Director of the Institute for Multimedia Literacy at USC as they discuss the cultural and spiritual legacies of yokai in Japan and beyond. Meher McArthur, Curator and Scholar of Japanese Art moderates this panel discussion.
Stay for a costume contest, music, and Japanese-inspired treats following the discussion, presented by USC Trojan Anime Culture.
Cosplay is encouraged—guests are invited to come dressed as their favorite yōkai, anime character, or mythical creature.
