A “Free America Walkout” is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, in Pasadena, calling on participants to leave workplaces, schools, or commercial activities at 2:00 pm local time and gather for a peaceful demonstration along Colorado Boulevard.
The walkout is intended to protest what organizers describe as an escalating fascist threat, including immigration raids, military presence in cities, mass surveillance, racial profiling, and attacks on immigrants and families. They said the action aims to demand the restoration of due process and the rule of law and to oppose misogyny, racism, xenophobia, extreme nationalism, militarism, and government-sponsored violence.
The planned walk will take place on the sidewalk along Colorado Boulevard from Raymond Avenue to Lake Avenue. Organizers emphasized that participants should remain on the sidewalk, allow pedestrian traffic to flow, and obey all street signs and signals. The event is described as a peaceful walk.
A rally point has been designated at The Paseo, located at 300 E. Colorado Blvd. Organizers said the Pasadena Police Department has been invited to help maintain safety during the event.
Parking for participants will be available at The Paseo’s subterranean self-parking garages, accessible from Colorado Boulevard and Green Street between Marengo and Los Robles avenues. Parking rates include 90 minutes free with validation from participating stores, $1.50 for each additional 30 minutes, and a $12 daily maximum.
Organizers noted that some individuals, such as healthcare workers and educators, may be unable to walk out due to safety concerns. Suggested alternative ways to participate include spreading information through social or virtual networks, donating to local community organizations, and displaying supportive signs or creative expressions such as art, music, or poetry.
Additional guidance from organizers includes setting an alarm for 1:50 pm, stepping onto a public sidewalk at 2:00 pm, holding a sign, avoiding purchases if possible, and following all posted rules and signage.
Organizers described the walkout as both a protest and a promise, stating that the event is intended to promote unity, peaceful action, and what they characterize as American values under the banner of a “Free America Walkout.”
