If you know how to ride a bike, but feel nervous riding with traffic, this Beginner’s Bagel Ride is the ride for you.

Participants will try out some bicycle skills that are important for riding in the street. You’ll also practice skills like hand signals, lane positioning, and how to use gears effectively.

The day will begin with a short skills practice in the parking lot before beginning the ride. The route is approximately 6-8 miles total with 300 feet of elevation gain. The ride will be at an easy pace of about 8 miles. This will be a group ride led by a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certified by the League of American Bicyclists. Educational materials in this event will be based on the League’s Smart Cycling curriculum. All participants will be required to sign a waiver.

These rides are social, slow paced, and friendly. There will be a few steps along the way to talk about safe biking habits. There will also be a stop for bagels along the way.

This is a family-friendly event. Due to the length of the route, this ride is not recommended for children under 10. The ride will start and end at Caltech parking lot #10. If you drive a car, you can park in the parking lot. Participants in this event should already know how to balance on a bicycle. If you have never ridden a bicycle before, it is recommended that you start with a learn to ride class.

Helmets are recommended for all and required by law for anyone under 18. It is recommended to bring water and snacks, sunblock or clothing to protect you from the sun, and a spare tube that fits the size of your tires. Check that your bike is in good working condition before the event.

      > Group size will be strictly limited. RSVP here to guarantee your spot.
