Community organizations celebrate environmental justice for all.
The Soul Force Project and the Pasadena Chapter of the United Nations will co-host ‘Environmental Justice for All: An Earth Day Celebration’ on Saturday, April 20 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
The Soul Force Project, an Altadena based nonprofit that utilizes art and music to promote social justice efforts, is partnering with the Pasadena Chapter of the United Nations Association to celebrate the earth, share delicious vegan food, and provide live music by extraordinary area musicians.
The site for this community event is the historic Solvang Ranch located at 280 Crosby Street in Altadena. The Ranch was built in 1915 and features beautiful gardens that surround the property.
Local artist and educator Leigh Adams will be honored by Soul Force for her decades of environmental justice activism and her work as an eco-sensitive designer and horticultural interpreter at the LA County Arboretum/Botanic Gardens. Adams’ seminal work in regenerative gardening practices has garnered recognition and awards from numerous area agencies, including the City and County of Los Angeles.
Hop Hopkins, director of organizational transformation for the Sierra Club, will provide an inspirational message about the environmental justice movement. Hopkins has been a community organizer and social movement strategist for over 25 years and will provide insights on how the effort to protect the planet should be more diverse and inclusive.
Attendees will be treated to the sounds and Afro-Latin music of the Earthseed Band, featuring the Soul Force Singers. Special musical guests will include Baba Onochie, Paul Livingstone, Diana Soto, Masauko Chipembere, and jazz vocal legend Dwight Trible.
This is a free, family friendly, zero waste, vegan food only, outdoor event. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles, and donations are accepted.
