Asian American and Pacific Islander Month (Photo – DIA)
Enjoy an art activity and cultural presentation in recognition of Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.
Create a Hawaiian flower crown known as a “haku lei” with the Armory Center for the Arts, enjoy light refreshments, and learn about the practice of natural agriculture from the Shumei organization.
Haku leis have a long, rich history starting from ancient Polynesian traditions. These head garlands were once used to honor gods, symbolize peace, and adornment. Now significant in Hawaiian culture, they are used for weddings, luau, and graduations. This activity will be led by the Armory Center for the Arts.
Natural agriculture is a decades-long tested farming methodology that does not use herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, or animal manure. The presentation will be provided by the Shumei American Center.
