The City of San Gabriel will welcome the Year of the Rat at the 2020 San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival on February 8, 2020, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.

      By John Fu

A unique take on the ancient Lunar New Year tradition, the San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival combines traditional performances and celebrations with contemporary musicians and entertainment in an experience distinct to the region.

Located in the San Gabriel Mission District, this year’s event will be headlined by AJ Rafael, one of social media’s most popular artists with over 140 million views on YouTube and over 410,000 Facebook fans. The festival will also feature performances by experimental pop artist Jett Kwong, magician/stuntman Joseph Tran, the Immortals Lion and Dragon Dance Troupe, Master Zhong and his face changing act, and the Viet Cam dance group. Rising K-POP dancers from across the region will also showcase their talents at our K-POP Dance Cover Contest on the festival stage.

San Gabriel Mayor Jason Pu said:

The City of San Gabriel is proud to present our 6th Annual Lunar New Year Festival to bring in the Year of the Rat with happiness, peace, and prosperity. We hope to share the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival with everyone and to bring the entire community together.

This year’s festival will include a variety of Asian street foods, including Kai Kai dumplings, Seoul Street food, Tanota Takoyaki, Tian Jin BBQ, Norigami Tacos, Steam Bun Truck and much, much more. The festival will also feature San Gabriel’s Ogopogo Brewing, Sapporo USA, ChoyaUmeshu USA, the Boston Beer Company, and Anchor Brewing. Local and regional artisans will also be housed in the festival’s marketplace, selling traditional and modern Asian goods.

John Fu is the Public Information Officer for the City of San Gabriel.
