Pasadena is turning 139 years fabulous, and the city’s throwing a birthday bash you won’t want to miss!

      By Katlyn Ong

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 1:00 pm–4:00 pm, when Happy Birthday Pasadena: Cake, Paint, & Party! takes over the beautiful Fenyes Estate Gardens, and yes, there will be cake.

But this isn’t just any party. This year, your celebration comes with a paintbrush.

In honor of the city’s big day, the Pasadena Society of Artists (PSA) invites you to roll up your sleeves and dive into their free hands-on Watercolor Studio. Whether you’re a seasoned painter or haven’t held a brush since kindergarten, this is your chance to unleash your inner artist, plein air style! Choose a charming corner of the gardens or pick a scene from the lively festivities and bring it to life with your own watercolor masterpiece.

Little ones (and big kids at heart) can explore their creativity with custom coloring sheets featuring the iconic Fenyes Mansion, while PSA artists will be on hand to offer tips, tricks, and encouraging nods as you go.

Once you’ve finished your painting, take things to the next level by creating a custom frame in the Art 2 Go craft workshop, a perfect way to showcase your new artwork, or keep it blank and frame future masterpieces at home. Not quite ready to pick up a brush? No problem. You can still drop by, soak up the inspiration, and enjoy making a frame anyway!

And if you need a little nudge to get those creative juices flowing, step into the galleries and check out “100 Years – 100 Images,” a powerful exhibition honoring PSA’s centennial. From bold abstracts to breathtaking landscapes, it’s a crash course in artistic inspiration.

      Summary

      • Celebrate Pasadena’s 139th birthday

      • Get guidance from professional artists from the Pasadena Society of Artists
