Candidates vie for two Council Seats.

The November 5, 2024, citywide election will fill two council seats. Elected candidates will serve 4-year terms. The latest finance report for the City of San Gabriel candidates shows Jorge Herrera Avila with $116,000, followed by Tony Ding with $90,000, Jeanne Raya with $16,00, and Carina Rivera with $5,000 in political contributions.
Campaign contributions per person, business, entity, or committee/PAC are limited to $5,500 per election. Additional information is available at the City of San Gabriel Public Portal for Campaign Finance Disclosure,
Jorge Herrera Avila
Jorge Herrera Avila was employed by Republic Services until August 19, 2024. The overwhelming majority (73%) of his contributions were the $85,000 he personally loaned to his campaign. He also had several contributions from area individuals and businesses.
Tony Ding
Incumbent Councilmember Tony Ding reports contributions to his campaign of $90,000, including a $500 donation by Congress Member Judy Chu. Numerous smaller contributions are from area businesses. Plus, a $5,500 contribution from Amteck LLC, an electronics products manufacturer based in Northridge.
Jeanne E. Raya
Jeanne E. Raya reports a $1,600 loan to her campaign. Other contributions range from $100 to $2,500 – several from retired area residents—and $750 from Planned Parenthood Advocates of Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley. Raya is a past San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce president.
Carina Rivera
Former Council Member Carina Rivera shows $5,125 in contributions, including a $1,000 loan to her campaign. She received donations from several current candidates for city council or sitting council members from other cities (Alhambra, South El Monte, Norwalk) and San Gabriel. Rivera is a local business owner appointed to the council in 2022 to fill a temporary vacancy.
