Sierra Madre Playhouse will host a full day of boundary-pushing performance on Saturday, January 31, blending contemporary movement and modern music with classic cinema at its historic venue, located at 87 West Sierra Madre Boulevard.

      By Melanie Hooks

The day begins at 11:00 a.m. with DIAVOLO Dance: Architecture in Motion presenting T.R.U.S.T., a high-energy performance by the internationally recognized troupe known for its gravity-defying work. DIAVOLO has captivated audiences worldwide, including millions of viewers on America’s Got Talent (Season 12) and at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Composed of dancers, gymnasts, and actors, the company operates as a tightly knit ensemble, collaborating in real time on and around striking, surreal structures. T.R.U.S.T. unfolds in multiple choreographic sections and incorporates inventive set pieces such as a traveling ottoman, benches, ladders, tight spaces, and an acrobatic wheel, emphasizing teamwork, risk, and physical trust.

The evening shifts gears at 8:00 p.m. with a screening of the 1927 silent film A Woman of the World, accompanied by a new, contemporary score by Pearl Jam. The film stars Pola Negri as Countess Elnora Natatorini, a glamorous European adventuress who leaves the sophistication of Monte Carlo for a Midwestern American town, where her cosmopolitan sensibilities clash with local traditions. The film will also screen on Friday, January 30, at 8:00 pm.

Tickets for all events are available in person at the Sierra Madre Playhouse box office, 30 minutes before each performance, or online at sierramadreplayhouse.org. Tickets can also be reserved via phone, then paid for onsite: (626) 355-4318.

      TeenTix for $5

TeenTix pass holders are welcome at Sierra Madre Playhouse events. All teens ages 13-19 are welcome to sign up for a free TeenTix pass to get tickets for arts events throughout LA County and Seattle for just $5! Call the box office at (626) 355-4318, beginning the day before or walk-up before the event begins to check for ticket availability.
