A stunning blood moon is set to appear this weekend during the total lunar eclipse of September 2025. While viewers across Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe will be treated to the celestial spectacle, those in the Americas will unfortunately miss out.

This rare event will see the moon bathed in a deep red hue, caused by Earth’s shadow slowly engulfing the lunar surface. Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to observe without any protective eyewear, making it a perfect opportunity for skywatchers in the regions where it will be visible.
The upcoming eclipse is expected to be particularly dramatic, as the moon will pass through the central, darkest part of Earth’s shadow, called the umbra, resulting in a rich rusty orange or even brownish-red coloration. This “deep” total eclipse promises a captivating display of nature’s cosmic dance.
For those in the Americas eager to witness a blood moon, relief is on the horizon: a total lunar eclipse visible from North America is scheduled for March 2–3, 2026.
In the meantime, enthusiasts can follow live coverage and updates through Space.com’s dedicated lunar eclipse live blog and livestream events, ensuring no one misses a moment of this celestial marvel.
