The longest running black history parade in California marched on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, along Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena. This year’s theme was “Celebrating our Excellence—The Legacy of Councilmember John J. Kennedy.”

They parade began in Altadena at the Metropolitan Baptist Church and joyously continued south to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, sister to All Saints Episcopal.
Along the way there were tributes to black athletes, dignitaries, and supporters of equality.
Local politicians and dignitaries cruised down Fair Oaks in vintage American cars waving to happy residents, business owners and people who came to pay tribute to Black History.
Young musicians and dancers filed along the parade route among Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre public school bands.
Among the Parade participants were Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, Congress member Judy Chu, Supervisor Kathryn Barger, State Senator Anthony Portantino, representatives from Pasadena City Council, Pasadena Unified School District, Pasadena City College and various local organizations.
Participants mingled at Jackie Robinson Community Center at the early morning breakfast and the booths from local organizations at the festival at the end of the parade.
