Author Mary Lea Carroll was busy planning her third travel-based book when the lockdowns of 2020 happened and all travel ceased. Somewhere along the course of filling time in that long year, she began writing about the neighborhoods she knew best instead: the Altadena of her 1960s childhood and the Pasadena of her adulthood, centered on the same block for 35 years.
She describes the resulting book of memories “Across the Street, Around the Corner…A Road Home” as a “love letter” to the special qualities of those places as well as the deep connections to vivid characters and places in both. She’ll be speaking about and signing the book at the free event.
