Candidates for California State Assembly District 41 and Senate District 25 are now scored by the newly-formed Climate and Environmental Leader Accountability (CELA) Coalition.
By News Desk
CELA developed its platform, and distributed a questionnaire to known candidates for Assembly District 41 and Senate District 25. They then scored responses to 17 questions in eight key areas:
- Zero Carbon Economy
- Environmental Justice
- Community Energy
- GHG Emissions from Transportation
- Environmental Toxins
- Just Transition
- Divestment
- Ethics and Transparency
Each candidate was asked whether they would, or would not, support specific positive environmental legislation. A response of Support receives a score of 1. A response of Would not Support receives a score of 0. A candidate who supported all positive legislation listed could receive a maximum score of 17. Candidates who did not respond are described as “declined to respond” and receive a score of 0.
Candidate submissions and scoring are now complete. Scores and responses for each question are shown on the attached report and can be viewed below and on CELA Facebook page. The CELA Coalition is not endorsing candidates. It is instead publishing an objective score based on respondents’ willingness to address climate change and protect public health and the environment.

Good effort, good article. Thanks for informing the public of this survey. Climate is in my opinion the most important issue in our country and the world. We need leaders that put this issue at the top of their priorities. And the public should know were these candidates stand on this crisis!
