Editor’s Note: We are saddened by the passing of poet extraordinaire, Robert Stewart, who passed away the morning of Wednesday, June 9, 2021.
Robert Stewart is an amazing artist and poet. This interview of Dec 20, 2014 reveals his unique voice. He questions everything. He is a diligent, encouraging supportive friend. He works constantly on his art, Tai Chi, and his poems, which resound with the flavors of Los Angeles, past and present, and Pasadena as his artistic and poetic home. After some complex surgery he’s been progressing slowly for a month and we all send him our good energy and love!
Just before his operation, he helped in curating and hanging this show, Sunrise and Sunset in Nature, at the Colonnade Gallery, Robert made and sent this poster, showing his own painting included in this show.
It would be wonderful to have a stream of visitors to the gallery during the rest of this month. The exhibit is ongoing at the Colonnade Art Gallery to Sept 27 and can be seen during their open hours Wednesday -Saturday 11 AM to 5:30 PM and Sunday, 11-4 PM
If you want to send greetings to Robert please send to Kathabela who will be compiling an album of good wishes to be presented to him (poetsonsite@gmail.com) or leave at the gallery during your visit.

An interview with Robert Stewart, creative explorer in the world of art, multi-media experimentalist with a classic, thorough, and contemporary bent.
By Kathabela Wilson
Robert Stewart is an inspiration and support to the artistic community here in Pasadena, at the Colonnade Gallery, and beyond. It is because I respect his skepticism, independent spirit, long experience with the LA arts scene, that my husband, Rick, and I joined The Colonnade Art Gallery.
Robert sees the Colonnade as refreshingly different, a place for individual expression and creative community. He feels that way about our Red Door Poets at Caltech where he attends workshops each week.
Robert approaches all his work with diligence, skill, experience and sensitivity. He is a consummate friend. When I asked him my questions I did so knowing he would be inventive, rebellious and strong. He has not disappointed me.
Telescope. Microscope. Compass.
How do you see yourself as a poet in the world? What inspires and ignites your work? How does the place you live and work influence your art?
When I aimed my scientific tools at him, this poet, with characteristic inventiveness, answered my questions with a poem:

wishing you the very best, Robert, your art & poems still an inspiration!!
Thank you,
Please tell me who you are
