The Angeles National Forest is proposing a new project aimed at enhancing public access and reducing parking congestion at the popular Chantry Flat Picnic Area.
By News Desk
Funded by the Great American Outdoors Act, the project includes the demolition and decommissioning of a dilapidated barracks building and the construction of a shuttle stop to improve accessibility to the site.
The Chantry Flat Picnic Area, located in a shaded oak forest, provides access to numerous trails, a relaxing spot for picnicking, and an adjacent pack station and store. The proposed project is part of an ongoing effort to make improvements and address deferred maintenance at this high-traffic area, ensuring a better experience for visitors.
While the project includes provisions for a future shuttle transportation system, it does not immediately provide shuttle services. The shuttle stop is being developed to facilitate easier access for visitors and ease the parking pressures that have become a concern at this popular location.
The Angeles National Forest is inviting the public to provide feedback on the proposed project. Comments are being accepted through multiple channels until April 16, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PST. Those interested in commenting can send their thoughts via email to Jose Henriquez, forest landscape architect, at jose.henriquez-santos@usda.gov with the subject line “Chantry Phase2 Comments.” Comments can also be submitted by phone at (626) 574-5277 or mailed to the Angeles National Forest at 701 N.
