Camping Under the Stars Gets a Price Bump in Angeles National Forest

Imagine stars in the night sky, a crackling campfire, and the sweet, gooey joy of s’mores — it’s camping season once again in the Angeles National Forest.

But campers heading to some popular forest campgrounds should be prepared for a modest fee increase starting May 1, 2025.

Camping fees at seven forest campgrounds — Buckhorn, Chilao, Coldbrook, Crystal Lake, Horse Flats, Manker Flat, and Monte Cristo — will rise from $12 to $20 per night. Forest officials say the adjustment helps support maintenance and improvements at these high-traffic sites.

Despite the bump, the Angeles National Forest still offers one of the best public access deals in Southern California. Depending on the site, individual campsites range from absolutely free to just $20 per night.

So pack your tents, load up the marshmallows, and get ready — the forest is calling.
