The Altadena Town Council released a statement on March 30, 2022, regarding an incident that occurred on March 31, 2020.

After an early morning traffic stop, Edward Bronstein was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol and transferred to the Altadena Station. Mr. Bronstein died in the custody of the CHP.
A wrongful death lawsuit was brought by the Bronstein family against the State of California, CHP and the individual officers involved. In connection with this case, a federal judge in the Central District of California ordered a CHP video taken during custody unsealed and released for use in the lawsuit.
The statement by the Altadena Town Council is as follows:
Recently, disturbing footage of the death of Edward Bronstein while in the custody of California Highway Patrol was unsealed. The Altadena Town Council was just made aware of this two-year old footage along with the rest of the public. We are troubled at the horrifying images and are committed to thoroughly seek out the facts and details so we may move forward in a way that best reflects our diverse and fair-minded community.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bronstein family.
