A local community group, My TRIBE Rise, will celebrate this new (four year old) national holiday on June 15, 2024.

      By Briony James

The festivities will be at the Metropolitan Baptist Church at 2283 N. Fair Oaks Ave, Altadena CA 91001, beginning at 8:30 am with a Peace March.

A complimentary breakfast will be served at 9:30 am, and the Celebration and Festival will be from 10:30 am until 3:30 pm. The festival will include local artisans and artists and recognition of Assemblymember Chris Holden and Senator Anthony J. Portantino for their service to the community. The My Tribe Rise group will also announce the winners of new scholarships for PUSD graduates created in honor of Harmony Hughes. Harmony was struck by an SUV Truck and succumbed to her injuries last August at the age of 15. These academic scholarships will be chosen and awarded at the Juneteenth Festival.*

      Schedule

      • 8:30 am: Justice, Peace and Freedom March (Victory Lap)
        Walk, Bike or Low-Ride
      • 9:30 am: Complimentary Community Breakfast
        Commune and Break Bread Together
      • 10:30 am to 3:30 pm: Celebration and Festival
        Turn All The Way Up!

*Scholarship details and application will post on May 1, thru May 20, 2024. For information, see this link: MyTribeRise.org.
