With those funds, ActiveSGV has chosen to bestow Alhambra its first Active Transportation Grant. Along with the grant, ActiveSGV will work with Alhambra to implement a short-term traffic safety demonstration project to improve the safety conditions on Poplar Blvd.
The ‘Reimagine Poplar’ project in the City of Alhambra is designed to identify and demonstrate potential measures to improve the safety of Poplar Blvd for all road users. The project will include a crash course for neighborhood residents on safety demonstration options, a physical installation of a short-term demonstration project, and a project evaluation that will identify next steps.
“It’s no secret that Alhambra has long been plagued by traffic safety issues and congestion,” says Alhambra Councilwoman Sasha Renée Pérez. “Over the last several years, residents have notified city officials of numerous traffic safety issues, including unsafe speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians at legal crossings, and violations of rules restricting large, heavy trucks from using this residential street. In some cases, this has resulted in significant property damage and injury. Working with ActiveSGV is a significant first step toward improving our city’s traffic safety.”
