ALDI is popping up all over California, and the latest local location to open in the area will be in Altadena.

      By Brian Rodriguez

Although details of the grand opening are still being finalized, one date is set for sure and it’s for a hiring event.

The hiring event will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and it will take place at the Altadena Community Center.

You need to apply in person at the hiring event only, but one thing you can do right away is to download their employment application here and bring it with you to the hiring event.

Store Associates – Retail Sales (Customer Service)

Store Associate with ALDI will receive 75 hours of paid training and mentoring over the first month of employment. Aldi has a promote-from-within policy which “means that you’ll have plenty of opportunities to advance to Shift Manager and beyond,” according to their website.

Aldi lists the following requirements for potential employees:

All potential ALDI employees must have excellent customer service skills and be able to effectively communicate with others. The ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment, while being a team player, is essential. You must have a flexible schedule and be reasonably available between 5:00 am-11:00 pm. You must be able to lift and stock merchandise up to 45 pounds. A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred. We provide an extensive period of training that will give you the tools, skills, and confidence that you need to excel at ALDI. You must also pass a drug test and background check.

      Wages and benefits

By keeping staffing and overhead low, ALDI will offer starting wages of $13 per hour for store associates, with an opportunity for long-standing associates to earn up to $21 per hour, in Southern California.

Store employees will average 33-40 hours each week and will be eligible for full benefits, including health insurance, dental coverage and the opportunity to participate in the company’s 401(k) program with matching contributions, according to the company’s press release.

The German discount grocer Aldi touts itself as bringing high quality groceries at impossibly low prices to the great state of California.

Full requirements can be found here.
