The erratic behavior prompted officers to initiate a pursuit, which ended in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven at Main Street and Marengo Avenue.
After officers boxed in the vehicle, the driver refused to exit. A female passenger, who appeared incoherent, was also seen in the front seat. For her safety, officers broke a window and safely removed both occupants.
Upon detaining the driver, officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun tucked into his waistband, along with two additional loaded magazines in his front pockets.
The suspect, identified as Gerd Chavez of Davis, California, was arrested at the scene and booked into the Alhambra Police Department Jail.
No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
