On Thursday, January 26, three institutions supporting Chinese Americans in the greater Los Angeles area joined together for a press conference to call on all Chinese organizations to join hands in unity to help the victims, family members, and people who were directly or indirectly traumatized by the tragedy of the shooting in Monterey Park on January 21, 2023.

These institutions, the Chinatown Service Center (CSC) of LA County, the Los Angeles Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA), Chinese American Unity Alliance (CAUA), want to let people know there are AAPI community organizations here to help the family members, survivors, and whoever may be impacted by the tragedy in Monterey Park. The organizations have people who speak various Chinese dialects that may comfort those who need help.
L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis, along with Monterey Park Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong, and Councilmembers Henry Lo and Yvonne You have been at the front line to serve the victims since the tragedy happened. They pledged their support at the press conference. Supervisor Solis believes the Chinese community is strong and resilient, and is glad to see the leading organizations unite to provide multicultural services to the victims. She asked that we reach out, talk to underserved people, and engage volunteers, including young people. Supervisor Solos also reminded everyone that if anyone needs help, please call 211.
Ernest Lee, President of CCBA, announced that over 27 community organizations created a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help the victims. Derek Ma, President of CAUA, recommended that people who are traumatized should contact one of these organizations for assistance or care. These leaders vowed community support for the victims through this difficult time.
The CEO of Chinatown Service Center Health said they are collaborating with several organizations. The Vice President of CSC Board of Directors C. Joseph Chang said that this is a time for us to think about how to prevent the tragedy from happening again. The CSC leaders said they have comprehensive services for the community and they are here to help. Nina Loc, Director of Behavioral Health Department of CSC Health encouraged people to create support groups. She also indicated that there are many AAPI organizations ready to support and guide us to improve mental health.
