A new chapter of hope and healing began in Pasadena on Thursday as Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger joined local leaders, service providers, and community members to celebrate the grand opening of PAX Recovery House with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The newly launched center offers structured recovery housing, clinical services, and peer-based support for individuals facing substance use and behavioral health challenges. Designed as a space for both healing and reintegration, PAX Recovery House provides residential and outpatient programs that include therapy, relapse prevention, housing navigation, and employment assistance.
“Today, we’re celebrating hope, second chances, and a community’s commitment to help one another,” Supervisor Barger said during her remarks. “Recovery is not a single event. It’s a daily, courageous choice—a choice people can make far more successfully when they have access to programs like PAX Recovery House. This site will restore relationships and reintroduce people to communities that need their talents and contributions.”
The event featured powerful testimonials from individuals whose lives have been transformed through recovery services. David Young, a former resident of PAX House, shared his story of change: “My time at PAX House helped me get my life together,” he said. “I’m truly grateful for the opportunity and want to thank you for helping me get back on track.”
James Burnett, CEO of PAX Recovery House, also reflected on his personal journey from addiction to leadership. “My life has changed for the better. I strive to offer hope to others because, at one point, if the dictionary had a picture next to the word ‘screw-up,’ it would have been mine,” he said. “But after five years of sobriety, I told them to take it down—because that chapter is already closed.”
Supervisor Barger underscored the importance of collaboration in expanding access to recovery services, emphasizing that programs like PAX Recovery House are made possible through strong partnerships between county agencies and community-based organizations.
“No single agency or program can solve these challenges alone,” Barger said. “Every ribbon we cut chips away at the stigma that too often surrounds recovery and unveils human dignity that deserves to be honored and supported.”
PAX Recovery House marks a significant step forward in addressing the intertwined crises of addiction, mental illness, and housing instability through compassionate, community-centered care.
