Below are excerpts from the letter:
…Indeed, we have a new lexicon of quarantine – “shelter in place”, “social distancing”, “zooming” that has accompanied the COVID-19 virus. With this imposed separateness comes a recognition of how important we rely on community cooperation. We are already ahead of the curve because the SMP community is extraordinarily caring and connected – a reality even more evident these days.
2020 planned productions postponed
Following the State of California directives delivered from Governor Newsom last Thursday, the Sierra Madre Playhouse will be closed until further notice. Realizing we have been called upon right now to “pull together by staying apart,” we have reevaluated our 2020 season. Within the framework that our most important concern is the safety and well-being of our community, our 2020 planned productions of King of the Yees, Silent Sky, and A Christmas Story, along with our Off the Page staged readings and Off the Screen film series have been postponed. We will resume when the time is right. Of course, rest assured, we will be contacting you in the coming days with more of the exact details.
…We thank you for your past support of the Playhouse. It enabled us to put on a program of extraordinary high quality in our intimate little theater. With your help, we will come back in full force as soon as we can.
Wishing you continued health and with gratitude,
David Gordon, President
Christian Lebano, Artistic Director
Estelle Campbell, Managing Director
