Across the Greater Pasadena area, a full slate of cultural, family-friendly, and holiday festivities promises a spirited start to December.

      By Melanie Hooks

      – DevFest Los Angeles 2025, the premier event for developers, students, tech enthusiasts, and industry professionals, is set to energize the Pasadena Convention Center on Saturday, December 6. The annual gathering offers a full day of workshops, talks, and networking opportunities designed to spark innovation and collaboration across the tech community.

      – Adding to Saturday’s excitement, the Sierra Madre Library will host its Best Used Book Sale December 5–6, giving readers an inviting chance to discover new stories and timeless classics. Attendees will find a wide array of genres at unbeatable prices—perfect for expanding personal collections ahead of the winter season.

      – The beloved Bob Baker’s Nutcracker, the enchanting 1969 marionette adaptation from the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, returns to the Sierra Madre Playhouse with 50 performances through January 4, 2026. This whimsical production continues to charm audiences of all ages, blending nostalgia, artistry, and holiday cheer in one magical show.

      – Beginning at noon, Holidayfest! transforms South Lake Avenue into a lively celebration with free family activities including photos with Santa, holiday crafts, cookie decorating, and meet-and-greets with classic holiday characters. The popular scavenger hunt also returns, offering attendees the chance to win prizes and giveaways while exploring the district’s shops and restaurants.

      – This year’s Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Ceremony in Altadena carries special meaning, marking 11 months since the devestating Eaton Fire of January 7, 2025.  Residents and visitors are invited together as nearly a mile of towering deodar trees illuminates for the 2025 holiday season, continuing a cherished tradition more than a century old.

      – Nearby, the Christmas Tree Lane Model Railroad Society opens its doors for an evening showcase of its extraordinary layout featuring the historic West Coast route of the former Carson & Colorado Narrow Gauge Railroad. The display offers a vivid journey through the geography and history of the Pacific West.

      – In Glendale, YWCA Glendale & Pasadena launches its first annual Holiday Maker’s Market & Community Wellness Fair from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Shoppers can browse handcrafted goods while accessing valuable community wellness resources.

      – Running through December 28, Enchant Christmas returns to Santa Anita Park with its dazzling attractions, including the world’s largest Christmas light maze, a real-ice skating trail, and more than 10 acres of immersive displays. Designed for all ages, the event remains one of the region’s most popular holiday destinations.

      – The 81st Annual Candlelight & Carols Concert at Pasadena Presbyterian Church brings together all resident choirs for a stirring performance blending sacred and secular holiday music. This year’s program includes refreshed arrangements of classic favorites as well as newly composed works, offering a heartfelt and uplifting musical experience for the whole family.

With tech innovation, festive markets, time-honored traditions, and community celebrations throughout the region, December 6, 2025, promises a day full of discovery and holiday spirit for residents and visitors alike.
