At the recent Altadena Town Council meeting, a national search was announced for artists to design, fabricate and install a freestanding permanent artwork adjacent to the entrance to the renovated Charles White Park in Altadena.
By Nic Arnzen
Charles White Park is named in honor of the renowned artist, teacher, and community advocate, Charles White, a long-time resident of Altadena. The park will undergo significant improvements over the next year, including expansion and updating of walking paths, enhancement of lighting and site furnishings, installation of waterwise landscaping and shade trees, a development of a landscaped outdoor classroom area, and creation of entrance points on Mountain View Street and Ventura Street.
The original freestanding artwork will be created in proximity to the Mountain View Street entrance. The park’s improvements pay tribute to Charles White’s impact and unique history; this artwork is intended to celebrate his legacy.
The Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture’s Civic Art Division invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications. A project overview and applications can be found at LACountyarts.org. (Click here to apply).
