The storm that hit California have brought 2.89 inches* of rain to the Pasadena area, and boosted the Sierra snow pack by 40%.
But is it enough to beat the drought?
Two central agencies, with two different methods, measure California’s drought recovery; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the California Department of Water Resources.
NOAA estimates that California needs close to 21 more inches of rain to recover from the drought in California.- The California Department of Water Resources estimates that California needs approximately 75 inches of rain by the end of this year.
With a new storm coming up next week, we need to remind ourselves that we are still not out of the drought spell yet, and we need to keep conserving water.
*Some meteorologists’ estimates went as high as 3.4 inches to 4.2 inches).
