In Paris, the Olympics are over. But Paris is a moveable feast, as Ernest Hemingway wrote. Josephine Baker sang that her country was Paris. Thomas Jefferson said that for every person, the first country is his homeland and the second, France. Next week, weather will be calm in California while it will storm in Paris. This shows that the clouds really do what they want. But we are not stopped by our weather.

Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, found Paris inspiring, as reported by both French and American media. Maybe the “French touch” will also be present in 2028 in California. In 2017 agreements were signed between Paris and Los Angeles. These agreements concern environmental protection, solidarity, inclusion, startups, and the fight against climate change. Maybe these goals, seen in the Paris Olympics, will last, develop and generate new aspirations. From the heart of Paris to the gardens of Versailles, even to the beaches of Polynesia, the City of Lights transmitted Olympic and Paralympic hope to the city of cinema and entertainment.
So, good evening, Paris, and good morning LA.
UCLA will host the athletes and I am sure that Caltech will contribute something for LA 2028, as will Santa Anita and the Rose Bowl. We are not giving up. We stay together, America and France. And before the Los Angeles Games, there will be 2026 and the 250th anniversary of America. France will be there, too.
It’s your turn, LA.
It’s your turn to make the world dream.
