As we reported last June, Aldi has officially confirmed it’s coming to Altadena.
By Marguerite Kribs
A sign appeared this morning announcing that Aldi, the chain store owned by the same German media-shy Albrecht family that owns Trader Joe’s, is “coming soon” to Altadena.
The Aldi Altadena Center is located at 2246 LAKE AVE., Altadena, CA 91003. This is part of an aggressive move by Aldi to open around 600 new stores around the country by 2018.
As of publication time, Aldi’s website still does not mention the Altadena location, but the signs are all there, including a sign (shown above) erected on the side of Lake and Calaveras.
Altadena’s impact
Aldi will be a valuable shopping experience for consumers who are not brand conscious. The company recently stepped-up its organic offerings, and removed some artificial ingredients from its products, while adding more gluten-free items.
Many residents see Aldi’s move as a positive step toward more shopping options in Altadena, that’s sure to attract more customers from nearby cities looking for a new shopping experience.
Pasadena’s impact
As Trader Joe’s, Aldi’s sister company, has three locations in Pasadena (and one in South Pasadena), and with the demise of Fresh and Easy, Aldi’s expansion in Southern California is a smart move. If this venture proves to be successful, the next logical step for Aldi will be to look for more nearby locations.
All eyes are now on the vacant location at California Blvd. and Lake Ave. Who will covet that prime location will be the next hot topic in real estate development circles.

Altadena is misspelled. Also, who determined that “it will be a valuable shopping experience…”? This sounds like promotion not news. Never been to this site so not sure of the mission of this site.
Hi Sean,
The writer explains it in the rest of the sentence: “…for consumers who are not brand conscious.” We do not promote, nor disguise our advertisements as articles, as some of our competitors do. “Advertorials” are a form of advertisement and should be labeled as such.
As for our mission, you can read “About Us” and know what we stand for.
We welcome you as a first time reader and we value your feedback.
Thank you.
Unfortunately, the old F& E spot on South Lake and California will be taken over by a CVS, of all things. As a neighbor, I am saddend to be getting another drug store, when there is a Walgreens down the street.
Been wondering. Good to know.
Trader Joe’s has three locations in Pasadena, not two: Arroyo Boulevard, Lake/Del Mar, and Hastings Ranch.
Thank you Timothy. It’s been updated.
