Firefighters swiftly responded to a small wildfire early Saturday morning, July 5, along Highway 39 above Crystal Lake in San Gabriel Canyon.

The blaze, known as the West Fire, was reported at 3:34 am and was held to approximately two acres.
Angeles National Forest fire crews made rapid progress, successfully completing a fireline around the perimeter. Crews remain on scene to strengthen containment lines and extinguish remaining hotspots within the burn area.
There are no road closures or impacts to nearby campgrounds and communities. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
