While the Rose Parade is the annual highlight of the Tournament of Roses, the members of the Rose Court continue their impactful journey long after January 1st.

      By Rena Kurlander

These exceptional young women are more than just parade participants; they are year-round community ambassadors dedicated to serving, speaking, and leading.

Seated on the float from left to right: Olivia Hargrove, Pasadena City College; Keiko Rakin, Alhambra High School; Livia Amy de Paula, Temple City High School; 2026 Rose Queen Serena Guo, Arcadia High School; Riya Gupta, Caltech; Naira Elaine Wadley, John Muir High School; Sophia Bai Ren, Arcadia High School.

Braving the elements, the Rose Court smiled, waved, and remained elegant throughout the parade. Their dedication to this iconic event marks just the beginning of their roles as representatives of the Tournament of Roses. But what’s next for these remarkable women after the parade?

Community Engagement: Connecting with the Local Scene

After the parade, Rose Court members embrace their roles as ambassadors for the Tournament of Roses by participating in a variety of local events.

Whether visiting hospitals, attending media functions, or supporting community initiatives, these women are committed to engaging with their community. Their efforts strengthen local ties while promoting the spirit of the Tournament of Roses.

Developing Leadership Through Public Speaking and Etiquette

A core part of the Rose Court’s post-parade experience is their continued personal and professional development.

Members refine their public speaking skills through ongoing training and appearances at various events. Media coaching, leadership workshops, and etiquette lessons all equip them for future success, not only in their ambassadorial roles but also in their academic and professional pursuits.

      Scholarships and Mentorship Opportunities

In addition to their community service, Rose Court members receive valuable academic scholarships that support their higher education goals.

The program also offers mentorship opportunities, connecting these women with industry professionals who can guide their growth and open doors to future careers.

A Commitment to Volunteering and Positive Values

At the heart of the Rose Court’s mission is a commitment to giving back.

Volunteering is a core responsibility, and members are deeply involved in promoting positive values through their actions. As role models for young women in their communities, they exemplify hard work, dedication, and compassion.

      Ambassadors Beyond the Parade

While their appearance in the parade and at the Rose Bowl Game is unforgettable, the Rose Court’s duties extend far beyond these events.

Each member is selected for her leadership, academic achievements, and public speaking abilities, making her a natural representative of the Tournament of Roses at nearly 100 other appearances throughout the year. Their commitment stretches across the entire calendar, reinforcing the personal growth and community service values that the program upholds.

I felt bad for them. Nothing on their heads and their dresses were soaked and stuck to them.
