On Saturday, May 11, 2024, at about 2:38 am, Pasadena Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the 2300 block of Foothill Blvd., regarding a single-vehicle traffic collision.

      By News Desk

The collision involved a white 2018 Tesla Model 3 with six occupants. Arriving personnel determined that the driver and two of the male passengers were killed in the crash. Three passengers were treated for life-threatening injuries and transported to Huntington Hospital. Officers secured the scene and the Pasadena Traffic Section’s Major Accidents Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to conduct a detailed investigation.

      Preliminary investigation

The preliminary investigation revealed the Tesla was traveling westbound on Foothill Blvd. in excess of 100 mph. The Tesla ran the red light at Sierra Madre Blvd. narrowly avoiding a collision with a northbound vehicle. As the Tesla approached Vista Ave. it struck the north curb and left the roadway. The vehicle crashed through a streetlight and was launched into the air where it collided with a power pole and into a vacant building about 130 feet away. There were four passengers seated in the rear compartment of the vehicle. Three of those passengers who were not wearing seatbelts were ejected during the crash.

The identification of the individuals involved is as follows. (Two of the names are  being withheld at this time.  One is pending further notification to the next of kin, and one is a minor.)

The driver was a young man with a dui from this last September. Still allowed by parents to drive. Speeding. Bottles found in car. He did not survive. His little sister was in there as well. Completely preventable. 3 ejected and passed, 3 physically survived. My daughter went to high school with one of them, he was so graphically disfigured his poor parents had to still come identify what was left. Just horrific. She just got back from leaving flowers.
