The nonprofit Urban Visionaries has declined a $60,000 grant from the City of Alhambra’s emergency reserve fund. The grant was intended to support a food pantry operated in partnership with the Alhambra Teachers Association (ATA).

The proposal, introduced by Councilmember Adele Andrade-Stadler at the August 25 Alhambra City Council meeting, allocated $6,000 for food purchases and $54,000 for overhead expenses, including $49,000 in staff salaries. It marked the first time the City considered using reserve funds to directly support a nonprofit.
As Colorado Boulevard has been reporting, the sole-source grant proposal drew significant public scrutiny, with concerns raised about transparency, accountability, and precedent. The item was scheduled for further discussion following public requests. However, before an additional meeting could be arranged, Urban Visionaries informed the City it would not accept the grant.
As a result, no further action on the item is expected at this time.

I hope that people now step up and VOLUNTEER to find a solution to our community food insecurities . It takes people coming together to make it happen , and yes I would be willing to help!
It was the right thing to do.
