A massive explosion has occurred at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo.

Winds are currently blowing west to east, spreading toxic smoke across the surrounding areas.
Residents and workers are advised to stay indoors and avoid exposure to the hazardous fumes. Emergency response teams are on-site, but the situation remains fluid. Stay tuned for updates.
Chevron’s website states that the El Segundo refinery, established in 1911, is the largest oil production facility on the West Coast. It processes 276,000 barrels of crude oil each day.

Friday, Sept. 3 – 5:01 pm:
Chevron has confirmed the fire has been contained. While gas prices may see a slight uptick, experts advise consumers that there’s no need to panic-buy, as it could unnecessarily strain demand.
Regarding air quality, on Friday afternoon, it was deemed “good,” with continuous monitoring in place to ensure safety.
