Crimes against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, events are planned all over the San Gabriel Valley to denounce hate crimes, hate rhetoric, and hate violence and affirm their commitments to the well-being and safety of all community members.
Here’s what’s happening in the next few days:
Pasadena
On Thursday, March 25, Pasadena Media, a local cable television network, will air a special edition of Arroyo Live at 5:00 pm. The program will highlight Asian American Pacific Islanders’ voices to celebrate the beautiful minds, cultures, and people of AAPI communities while combating discrimination, hatred, and violent attacks against them.
Arroyo Live’s special guest host will be Bryan Takeda, President of Affinity Associates, with guest panelists:

- Mercedes Cook, Esq., Deputy Public Defender

Arroyo Live airs on the Arroyo channel, found on Charter Spectrum channel 32 in Pasadena and Altadena and AT&T U-verse channel 99 where available throughout LA County. Viewers can also stream the program live or video-on-demand at pasadenamedia.org, via the free Pasadena Media app for Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Apple TV devices, and on Pasadena Media’s social media platforms.
San Gabriel to Alhambra
On Friday, March 26, leaders from Alhambra, Rosemead, San Gabriel and Monterey Park, in conjunction with members of the Alhambra Teachers Association, will gather together in solidarity to denounce hate crimes, hate rhetoric, and hate violence and affirm their commitments to the wellbeing and safety of all community members.
The “Rally and March Against Anti-Asian Hate Crimes and Racism” will start at 4:00 pm at San Gabriel City Hall (425 S. Mission Drive) and ends at Alhambra City Hall (111 S. 1st Street).
For those attending:
- Social distancing, mask wearing, and obeying traffic laws is expected.
- Wear comfortable clothing and shoes; bring water to stay hydrated.
- Make a plan to get back home (walk, carpool, etc).
- Limited parking at San Gabriel High School in the North Parking Lot only (no parking available at the Mission Playhouse due to event).
Monterey Park
Join a community vigil and healing space to grieve, and denounce violence against Asian Americans, misogyny, classism, racism, and white supremacy.
A coalition of grassroots SGV organizers invite the public to join them at a community vigil on Saturday, March 27, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Solidarity is the solution.
Given the COVID pandemic, there will be both virtual and in-person options for folks to participate.
