South Pasadena High School (SPHS) students Eliot Kwon, Pei-Chen Ng, and Colette Tam have each earned the SkillsUSA National Statesman Award during the organization’s Washington Leadership Training Institute (WLTI), held September 20–24, 2025, in Washington, D.C.

The National Statesman Award honors students who demonstrate outstanding knowledge of SkillsUSA, strong civic awareness, and the ability to effectively articulate their career and technical education (CTE) experiences.
To be eligible for the award, students must complete coursework and certifications before attending WLTI. While in Washington, participants engage in leadership sessions, training workshops, and panel discussions focused on professional and civic development. The program concludes with a personal interview in which students describe their CTE programs, reflect on how those experiences have prepared them for future success, and share their career goals.
This year, students representing nearly 30 states nationwide earned the prestigious SkillsUSA National Statesman Award.
