Thousands of passionate protesters gathered on Colorado Boulevard in front of the Tesla dealership, stretching all the way to The Paseo and beyond, to participate in the powerful “Hands-Off!” rally.

      By John Boucher

The event, part of a nationwide movement, has been hailed as the largest single-day protest since the current administration took office in January 2025.

Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) stood in solidarity, participating in three separate rallies across the region. The “Hands-Off!” mobilization sparked over 1,100 rallies, visibility events, and meetings across all 50 states and Washington D.C., uniting Americans from all walks of life in a defiant stand against proposed cuts to essential social programs.

The rally in Pasadena became a vibrant display of unity, with people of all ages—children, adults, and seniors alike—holding signs, chanting, and singing in unison. The message was clear: Keep your hands off Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

“Hands-Off” refers to the overwhelming public opinion against any attempt to undermine or reduce the benefits that millions of Americans depend on. Rep. Chu, alongside other speakers, fiercely denounced Republican proposals to cut Medicaid, cripple the Social Security Administration, and dismantle Medicare. These proposals, they argue, would disproportionately harm seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families—leaving the most vulnerable without the care and support they have earned through years of hard work.

“The agenda being pushed by Republicans in Congress, along with the T.-Musk administration, is putting millions of Americans at risk,” said Rep. Chu during her speech. “They are attempting to strip healthcare from people who need it the most, all to fund tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy. We cannot let this happen.”

The rally comes on the heels of the controversial T. Tariff Tax, announced earlier this week, which is being called the highest tax increase on middle-class families in U.S. history. Critics argue that this tax burden will primarily impact working families while wealthy corporations and billionaires continue to amass even more wealth.

“We will not stand idly by while the rich get richer at the expense of everyday Americans,” one rally participant declared. “We are fighting for our future, for our healthcare, and for the promise that Social Security and Medicare will be there for us when we need them most,” said Tammy Silver, Pasadena City College Trustee. “We will be here every Saturday from 12-2. Join us to save our democracy.”

As the rally continued through the day, the overwhelming message was one of unity, resilience, and determination to protect the social safety nets that millions of Americans rely on for their well-being and security. The “Hands-Off!” rally in Pasadena was just one of many nationwide that exemplified the power of collective action in the fight for social justice.

The movement has clearly resonated across the country, with citizens resolutely determined to keep their voices heard and their rights protected.
