A report of a suspicious package led authorities to uncover a cache of illegal homemade fireworks in San Gabriel on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a swift emergency response and the evacuation of nearby areas.

At approximately 3:30 pm, the San Gabriel Police Department was alerted by the United States Postal Service to a suspicious package at 1818 S. San Gabriel Boulevard. Upon arrival, postal inspectors made contact with an individual at the location who admitted to possessing illegal fireworks.
The Los Angeles County Bomb Squad was immediately deployed and oversaw the safe removal of the hazardous materials. The San Gabriel Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist with the management and disposal of additional fireworks.
A 500-foot evacuation perimeter was established around the site. Residents and businesses within this zone were notified, and temporary shelter was made available at Gabrielino High School for those affected.
San Gabriel Boulevard, between Valley Boulevard and Marshall Street, was temporarily closed while emergency personnel conducted operations. The road has since reopened. Authorities are urging the public to continue avoiding the area to ensure safety and support ongoing response efforts.
