The hearing, convened by Congressman Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee, focused on the widespread impact of the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
During her remarks, Supervisor Solis underscored the severe human cost of the former president’s immigration enforcement tactics, emphasizing how families across Los Angeles County have been torn apart by unlawful arrests, racial profiling, and aggressive raids. She painted a grim picture of communities that continue to live in fear due to civil rights violations and ongoing threats to their basic human dignity.
“Today’s hearing made clear the human cost of the Trump administration’s inhumane immigration policies,” Solis said. “Across Los Angeles County, communities are living in fear, facing civil rights violations, and enduring attacks on basic human dignity. Families, including many U.S. citizens, have had their lives upended by unlawful arrests, racial profiling, and aggressive raids.”
In response to these policies, Solis has been a vocal advocate for immigrant communities. She highlighted her efforts to protect residents, including authoring over 15 motions at the Board of Supervisors addressing the fallout from the raids. Under her leadership, Los Angeles County has launched several initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of federal immigration actions. These include the creation of the Small Business Resiliency Fund, significant investments in immigrant legal services, and emergency rent relief and food support for vulnerable populations.
“We’re not just standing by,” Solis continued. “We are taking action. We’ve worked tirelessly to defend our residents’ rights, challenge unconstitutional detentions in court, and support litigation against the use of the National Guard in immigration enforcement. We’ve also joined cases defending Temporary Protected Status and standing up for constitutional protections.”
The Supervisor reaffirmed her commitment to continuing the fight against what she called the “abuses” of the Trump administration, vowing to hold those responsible accountable for the harm caused to immigrant families and communities across the nation.
“The Trump administration must be held accountable,” Solis concluded. “I will continue standing up to these abuses and fighting to protect due process for our communities.”
Supervisor Solis’ comments come amid ongoing debates over the lasting impact of Trump-era immigration policies and the efforts of local leaders and advocacy groups to mitigate their harm.
