The event followed a morning breakfast reception, where Chair Pro Tem Solis delivered remarks highlighting the importance of community, visibility, and resilience amid rising challenges to LGBTQ+ rights.
“These are deeply challenging times for many in our communities, especially LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrant families, and others who are simply trying to live with dignity, safety, and joy,” said Solis. “That is why coming together today in solidarity and shared purpose is not only meaningful, it is necessary.”
Five honorees were recognized for their leadership and service:
- Emmanuel Estrada, Councilmember for the City of Baldwin Park, for his equity-focused leadership supporting working-class families.
- Camila Camaleón, President of the San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ+ Center and Director of Policy at California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, for her advocacy uplifting queer and trans communities of color.
- Hans Johnson, President of Progressive Victory and Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Civilian Oversight Commission, for decades of civil rights activism.
- Julia Diamond, Vice President of The Music Center Arts, for her work in making public art more accessible and inclusive.
- El Sereno Greengrocer, co-founded by Patricia Torres and Erika Crenshaw, for advancing food justice and community mutual aid.
“Each of today’s honorees leads with heart, vision, and purpose,” said Solis. “They remind us just how essential LGBTQ+ voices are to the future of Los Angeles County.”
Solis also highlighted key milestones achieved during her tenure, including the creation of the County’s first LGBTQ+ Commission, expansion of gender-affirming care, and enhanced services and protections for LGBTQ+ residents.
