Students enrolled in South Pasadena High School’s Sports Medicine program are gaining valuable hands-on experience through innovative tools and real-world practice, both in and out of the classroom. This week, students worked with the Anatomage Table, a state-of-the-art, life-size 3D anatomy visualization system used in professional medical schools.

As part of a lesson on vital signs, students used the digital cadavers to explore human anatomy in detail. They rotated, cross-sectioned, and animated the virtual replicas to deepen their understanding of various body systems and their functions.
SPHS offers two levels of Sports Medicine courses: Introduction to Sports Medicine and Advanced Sports Medicine, the latter now designated as an honors course. The program equips students with foundational knowledge and practical skills, including athletic taping and wrapping, triage and wound care, and assisting with therapy and rehabilitation.
Beyond the classroom, students apply their skills in real-world settings, such as hosting Athlete Recovery Weeks and working alongside the SPUSD Athletic Trainer throughout the year.
Looking ahead, students will compete in a series of regional competitions this spring, including events that incorporate the Anatomage Table and other medical skill challenges.
The District extended its gratitude to Sports Medicine teacher Andre Zumaeta for his leadership and dedication in inspiring the next generation of sports medicine professionals.
