Marshall Fundamental will host the 8th Annual Women’s History Month Assembly on March 26, 2025, at 6:00 pm. This free event will highlight the impact of the women’s liberation movement and explore the future of women’s rights globally.

California State Senator Sasha Renée Pérez will deliver the keynote address, with PUSD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Blanco also speaking. The theme for this year’s event is Together, We Rise, and it will be held both in-person and livestreamed.
Notable past speakers have included Congresswomen Judy Chu and Maxine Waters, former Secretary Hillary Clinton, labor activist Dolores Huerta, and Tournament of Roses President Laura Farber. Previous years have also featured pre-recorded messages from women’s rights activists in Pakistan.
Created in 2018 by Principal Lori Touloumian and PUSD Trustee Jennifer Hall Lee, the assembly includes an annual prompt for middle and high school students to submit essays and artwork. The 2025 prompt invites students to reflect on the legal and social victories of the women’s liberation movement and consider whether they are necessary to preserve. An additional prompt this year asks students to identify a female leader who supported the Altadena, Pasadena, and Sierra Madre communities following the Eaton Fire.
Principal Touloumian said, “We are so excited to welcome Senator Pérez as our keynote speaker and encourage students to explore how the Eaton Fire affected our community.”
PUSD School Board President Hall Lee added, “The Civil Rights, Women’s Liberation, and LGBTQ+ movements transformed our democracy, and there’s so much to learn from this national history.”
The event, free and open to the public, will be held at Marshall Fundamental, 990 Allen Ave., Pasadena, CA 91104. Street parking is available.
