The Star of Palawoo, a symbol of hope and light for the Altadena community, had shone brightly through the holiday season, bringing joy and warmth to the area.

However, after the devastating Eaton Fire, many feared that the star had been either destroyed or severely damaged.
Despite the uncertain circumstances, a group of determined volunteers refused to let the star’s light go out. Jude Miller-Chapin, along with Phil Elkins’ sons Todd and Nate, joined forces with the Santa Cruz Fire Department to embark on a mission to restore the star. Equipped with solar panels, batteries, and other essential gear, they hiked up the hill to assess the situation and, if necessary, light the star for Altadena and the San Gabriel Valley.
Their efforts were successful, and today, the Star of Palawoo shines once again over the town. In a time when Altadena faced one of its darkest moments, this restored beacon of light stands tall, offering hope, encouragement, and a reminder of the community’s resilience.
The star’s return brings a powerful message to the people of Altadena: even in the face of adversity, there is always a way to find light and keep going.
