Holly Lang’s second-grade classroom at Marengo Elementary, part of the South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD), is always filled with smiles and laughter, but last Friday morning the excitement reached new heights. With the first game of the World Series on the horizon, Lang’s students channeled their love for the Los Angeles Dodgers into every part of their school day.

Room 8 has been transformed into a Dodger-blue celebration, decked out with team paraphernalia, bobbleheads, and banners. Lang has woven the team’s playoff run into her lesson plans — from math word problems to daily oral language practice, and even letter writing, as students composed good-luck notes to their favorite players.
“It’s amazing to see them so engaged,” Lang said. “When we connect learning to something they love, the results are incredible.”
The enthusiasm caught the attention of KTLA News, which sent a reporter and videographer to capture the classroom’s energy. The feature segments aired throughout the day, showcasing the creativity and school spirit that have made Lang’s class, and SPUSD, a true home run.
