Middle and High School students from around the San Gabriel Valley participated in the 5th annual speech contest held Saturday, November 12, at the San Gabriel adult recreation center.

The event was hosted by I-Chinese American Political Action Committee (I-APAC), Asian American Advocacy Alliance (AAAA), and Chinese American Equalization Association (HQH).
The topic for the Middle School students was, “Should Asian American History be Added to School Textbooks.” The topic for High School students was “Gun Rights vs Gun Control: What is the Right Balance?”
Each student had three minutes to speak and was scored by a variety of criteria, including representation of the topic, presentation, and persuasion. There were five judges: the Honorable Former State Assemblyman Mike Eng, PCC Trustee Alton Wang, Alhambra Mayor Adele Andrade-Stadler, San Gabriel Commissioner and Colorado Boulevard columnist, Cheri Cabot, and Attorney Kenny Chung. Approximately thirty students gave prepared speeches. Nine winners received monetary awards and trophies.
