The exhibition opens at the SPARC Gallery at the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce on February 8, 2025, with a reception from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. “The Beautiful Lie” runs through March 29, 2025.
Van der Zaag was a ceramicist for several years before changing her focus to abstract oil painting and photography. She has taught painting, ceramics, and photography at UC Santa Barbara, the Pasadena Art Workshops, and Arroyo Vista School. “My experience with ceramics and sculpture has informed my approach to painting,” Van der Zaag observed, “and elements from those earlier forms still carry through my current work.”
The SPARC Gallery at the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is located at 1121 Mission St., South Pasadena, inside the Chamber of Commerce building. (Not to be confused with SPARC’s Centre Gallery at the Fremont Centre, 1000 Fremont Ave., Suite 120, South Pasadena.) Gallery hours will vary after the Feb. 8 opening. To schedule visits on other dates during the run of the show, contact curator Blue Trimarchi, (626) 676-4195. Admission is free.
