Hard to believe, but it’s already time to start looking ahead to the next school year.

      By News Desk

South Pasadena Unified School District provides the below guidance to assist interested families.

      Elementary Schools

Registration to enroll children in South Pasadena elementary schools for the 2026-2027 school year began Friday, January 16, 2026 at 9:00 am. Families residing in South Pasadena should complete the online registration at southpasadenausd.aeries.net/enrollment and select “pre-enroll for 26-27.” Families will then schedule an in-person meeting at their designated home school to complete the registration process.

Children currently enrolled at SPUSD schools will be automatically registered for the following school year and should return the “Intent to Return Form” by January 9, 2026 (teachers will send these forms home during the first week of January).

      Transitional Kindergarten

Children who turn four by September 1, 2026, will be eligible to register for the SPUSD Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program. Information about the TK program may be found on the SPUSD website, and TK registration information may be found here.

      Dual Immersion Programs

SPUSD also offers Dual Language Immersion Programs in Spanish and Mandarin. For parents interested in learning more about the programs, SPUSD created a general overview presentation that is posted on the Dual Language Immersion (DI) Program webpage.

After registration takes place, two different lotteries will be held. The Dual Immersion lottery will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 3:30 pm. The new family TK/K lottery will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 3:30 pm.

      Request a School Change

Families requesting a change in their school assignment must complete an open enrollment form, available at the school office, and return it to their home school by 4:00 pm on Friday, March 27, 2026. An open enrollment lottery will be conducted when requests exceed capacity, and placement decisions will be sent to open enrollment applicants before the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

New Middle and High School Students

Families with new middle or high school students may register their children at the school sites beginning Monday, March 9, 2026, by appointment. Please check the school or District websites for more information. A tour of South Pasadena High School for new and existing families will be held on January 22 from 6:30-8:15 pm. Please check the elementary school websites for information about scheduled school tours.

Prospective Students from Outside District Boundaries

SPUSD welcomes applications from families residing outside of District boundaries. This process is separate from resident registration and enrollment. For more information about interdistrict permits and releases, visit www.spusd.net under Enrollment/Registration and Interdistrict Permits.
